As We Countdown To Groove Odyssey 3Rd Birthday Party Check This Interview From Our One Of Our Special Guest "JULIE McKNIGHT "
Q: First of all how does it feel to be the vocalist on the classic hit "Finally".. How did it came to be made and where you aware how special and influential it would be?
Answer: I am and have always been honored to be the vocalist on "Finally". I was asked, by Jay Sealee to sing the track and I knew I loved it and I'd hoped the world would.
Q: Are you looking forward to coming to play at the Groove Odyssey 3rd Birthday on September 29th alongside Louie Vega and Kerri Chandler ? How well do you know them and have you worked with them before ?
Answer: I am so excited to be performing with Louie Vega and Kerri Chandler! I am a major fan of them both and I'm humbled to be along side these amazing artist.
Q: Is this your 1st time in London this year ? And what can we expect from your live show ?
Answer: I was in London, a few months ago; and I'm always excited to play in England. I expect everyone to party as hard as I will during the show!
Q: How does playing London compare to other countries and how do you feel about us as a city – and please go easy on us, I know we don’t have the sunny disposition that the Miami music conference can throw your way ?
Answer: I love England! From the start of my career, almost 14 years ago, England was one of the first places to embrace me.
Q: House and dance is so much ingrained in British music, are there any UK artists whose music you feel a real affinity for or have worked with ?
Answer: I haven't had the honor to work with many artist, outside of DJ's, from Britain. I am loving Natasha Watts! I'm excited that she's keeping the Soul in House music.
Q: What are your currently working on and do you have a song that you’re particularly proud of ? What do you see as the your greatest musical career highlights so far?
Answer: I'm very proud of my first solo project! Although I have been featured on many tracks, this will be my first solo project. The first track, "Leave it alone" will drop in October. The project is pure Soulful House and it's all performed with live band. I have a few surprise DJ's on the remixes so look out!! I am also putting together a compilation featuring DJ's and vocalist who may not be as well known but who are awesome!
Q: What was your first break and first big record and did it set you on your path?
Answer: "Finally" was the first major record and it has definitely set me on this path. I'm very grateful.
Q: Do you think House is having a renaissance right now and that the music is so strong it's never really gone away?
Answer: Yes, I believe that House has had the strength to withstand all the changes it's been through. Over the past few years, there have been many branches that have stemmed from House but inevitably it has to turn around.
Q: You grew up in New Jersey ? or NYC and then moved to.....?, how much of an influence did the neighbourhoods around you have on your path towards music? Were there any other major influences such as key people, DJ's, producers or clubs etc ?
Answer: I actually grew up in Memphis, TN. The music there is heavily influenced by Soul, Blues and Rock. I embraced it all.
Disco and Afro-latin music was major, for me, as well.
Q: So what does the future hold for you?
Answer: The future holds more music!!
Q: And before you leave us, can you tell us something we don't know about you? Any unusual hobbies, stories or fun stuff ?
Answer: I better not tell the fun stories (smile). Many people don't know that I have two sons, Brian McKnight Jr. (23) and Niko McKnight (20). Their new CD, "BRKNRBTZ" can be picked up now!!
