Berghain: how not to get into Berlin's infamous club

Wednesday, 01 June 2016
It’s 100% more fun than queuing outside, and it won’t cost you the plane fare to find out.

Getting into Berghain is notoriously hard. “Wear Black”, “Don’t speak English”, “Don’t head over in a big group” are just a few well-known words of advice often banded around in an attempt to help out hopefuls. I mean, someone even created this step-by-step guide on how to “enhance your chances” getting into the club.

Cue a website simulator that lets you practice getting into Berghain.

Yes, really. This new virtual reality simulator leads you right up through the queue barriers and to notorious bouncer, Sven (unfortunately, not the “real” Sven, but one of the video production team). Meanwhile, the facial recognition software interprets your body language and expressions just to make sure your not having too much of fun out there. I mean, it’s not like you’re there to have a good time, am I right?

Once face-to-face with Sven, the interrogation begins, and you’re asked a few pretty straightforward questions such as, “How Old Are You?”, “Have you taken any drugs?”, “Do you know who’s playing tonight”.

Next comes the rejection: “Not Today”.

Think you can cut it?
