My passion for music started from childhood when I would listen to my older brothers playing their 45s and LPs – all sorts of sounds, but it was the Motown and soul grooves that stood out for me…. Stevie Wonder (or God, as he is known in my house), Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin to name but a few certainly whetted my appetite for what was to come…
Fast forwarding a few years (after buying my first piece of vinyl as an 11 year old) and at the age of 14, I discovered the joys of the 12″ and I was hooked! My local youth club happened to have access to a twin turntable unit so of course I volunteered my services, spinning the current soul tunes of the time at the youth club discos. By now I had been truly bitten by the bug – there was no turning back!
Around 1987, alongside two old school friends, we clubbed together and bought our first proper decks, mixer etc. and did a few local gigs; pubs, private parties, continuing to play Soul, Funk and Hip – Hop…. and then it happened…. BAM! …. House music came along and life would never be the same again!!
Since then I have DJed in clubs and at parties in London, Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester, Plus Greece, Spain, Mexico and a long stint in Sydney, Australia (having lived there for a couple of years). I also ran a very intimate (but very memorable to those who attended) club night in London called “Mystique” for a couple of years in the late 90s.
My first foray into radio also came in the late 90s at UK Rumbal, ending up at Housefm.net in 2007 where I reside to this day…. check out “THE SOULGANIC SUNDAY SESSION” every Sunday from 8 – 10pm on www.housefm.net where we spread the soulful vibe – worldwide!
My musical philosophy? It’s all about the groove, baby….. and it’s gotta have SOUL!
